Beside the obvious benefit of planning for block parties etc., I am thinking about other things that the neighborhood might enjoy like plant swaps, a tool exchange, an alert system, local business recommendations etc.

I'm going to kick this off by suggesting an informal plant and yard swap. Many of us are in the process of planting vegetables, annuals, perennials for a summer of bounty and beauty. Perhaps you have leftovers you'd like to swap. I have some plants that need to be thinned (Agapanthus, Fortnight Lily, Pink colored Geranium and Yucca cuttings) that I'd rather share than send to compost. I also have a wheelbarrow or two of decent topsoil (wheelbarrow available for loan to neighbors). I have several 1"x 20ft? lengths of white pvc pipe, numerous pvc fittings, lots of hand cut kindling, probably way too much lawn seed and fertilizer, a faded but sturdy green cloth market umbrella (9ft?, no base)
ReplyDeleteMy wish list? leftover vegetable plants or seeds, New Guinea Impatiens, Bird of Paradise, other perennials, ferns, lettuce starters or seeds.
